First Born_One Of A Kind Page 8
"How does the new boy know your name?" I asked her. I didn't like this new guy knowing her. He could be someone from her old life, an ex maybe?
"Uh he's my neighbor?" She said it more like a question. I knew that was a lie because I know everyone in her neighborhood, since they're all from my pack. Why was she lying to me? That didn't settle well with me. I raised an eyebrow at her. Before I could question her more he walked up.
"Hey, I've been looking all over for you." He said to her. My wolf growled at that. Why was he looking for her? And how does he know her? Before she could respond I did.
"Why?" I asked him. Ashley glared at me, but I didn't care. Why was he looking for my mate?
"Uh I believe I was talking to the lady." He snapped. My wolf growled at being disrespected. I sniffed the air trying to see what he was, and if he was a threat to my mate. He smelled normal to me, which made me frown. Ashley is hanging out with a human?
"And I believe I was asking you a question." I told him, trying to control my wolf. But couldn't stop myself from taking a step closer. He looked over at my mate, confusion on his face, which made me madder for some reason. That's when I should have realized that my wolf was taking over.
"Blake, he did nothing back off!" Ashley placed her hand on my chest. Why was she defending him? I looked at her then back at him. Her touch calmed me down a bit but not a lot.
"What's going on here?" I asked.
"I told you already." She said rolling her eyes. She's hiding something, but I'll get it out of her later when he isn't around.
"Whatever." I mumbled, leaning back against the locker. I took deep breaths to try and get control of my wolf, before he ripped this human apart.
"Did you need anything?" She asked him.
"Yeah, do you mind if I sit with you at lunch?" The nerve of this guy, once again my wolf rose to the surface.
"No." I said just as I heard Ashley say yes. I looked over at her. What is she doing?
"Excuse me?" She asked with an edge to her voice, that neither I nor my wolf liked.
"I said no, you're sitting with me and he's not invited." I told her in my alpha voice. Any other wolf would have submitted, but of course not my mate.
"I'm sure she can make her own decisions." The new guy said. I've had about enough with this guy. I made a move to hit him, but then I heard Ashley speak.
"Yeah Blake I can, and I'm not sitting with you, now come on Jacob." She grabbed his hand and started pulling him away. At that moment I lost it. My mate is picking another male over me!? My wolf wanted out. Not only was I mad but hurt. She's supposed to be by my side no matter what. She's meant to be my other half. And she's choosing a human over me?
"Take one more step with him and you'll regret it." I warned with a growl. My wolf had completely taken over. She stopped and turned around.
"Oh yeah, and what are you going to do?" My wolf didn't like her tone, he growled. She turned back and started walking away again still holding his hand. I felt my wolf smirk.
"I Blake Ryder reject you." He snarled. Inside my head I was screaming. She stopped and slowly turned around, tears forming in her eyes. My wolf realized his mistake and let me take over, but it was too late. The damage was already done. She turned around and ran. I was about to chase her when the new guy blocked me.
"I think you've done enough." He glared at me. I was about to hit him for stopping me, but when I raised my fist it wouldn't go towards him. Like an invisible force was stopping it. What the heck? I looked towards the guy to see him staring intently at me.
"Get the hell out of my way!" I roared.
"Relax dude she needs time alone. Now isn't an appropriate time to go after her." I knew he was right and hated how much he knew my mate.
“This is all your fault.” I growled at him.
“I’m not the one that rejected her.” He raised an eyebrow at me. How does he even know what it means to reject someone? He wasn’t even a werewolf. But he was right, I had no one to blame but myself. I leaned against a nearby locker sliding down grabbing a fist full of my hair. For the first time in years I felt a tear slide down my cheek. What have I done?
Ashley’s POV
"I Blake Ryder reject you." Those words have been repeating in my head all day, and every time I hear them the more my heart breaks. Why would he reject me? And over a lunch table? Did our bond mean that little to him?
"Hey Ashley, are you ok?" Jacob asked, as I stared at my room ceiling. I was too heartbroken to stay at school, so I decided to go home. Jacob decided that he will come with me, even though I was against it. I was starting to get used to his presence now. He's like an annoying brother I never asked for. Luckily my mom and Ben were both at work.
"I don't know Jacob, how should one feel after getting their heart ripped out and mowed over like tall grass?" I replied calmly. Jacob decided not to answer. Just then my phone decided to ring. I ignored it, but Jacob had other plans.
"Hello?" He answered. "Yeah she's right here... I'm not sure now's a good time... why does it matter who I am?" At this point I decided to take the phone from him.
"Hello?" I asked into the phone.
"Ashley? It's me Dylan, are you ok?" He asked worriedly on the other line. I haven't talked to Dylan in two days and I really missed him. Hearing his voice made me feel much better.
"Yes Dylan I'm fine, why do you ask?"
"Well Blake called me earlier saying some nonsense about him rejecting you, and I was checking to see if you were ok." At the mention of Blake’s name my mood dropped again. Did Blake know Dylan was my mate? I never told him, but why else would he call Dylan? He must've have figured it out when I was in the hospital.
"Yes, he did." Was all I replied.
"Oh." The line went quiet for a while and I could hear cars in the background.
"Where are you?" I asked him.
"I'm on my way to your house." He replied in a duh manner.
"What? Why? I told you I'm fine."
"Yes, you did, but there was also a guy who answered your phone." I rolled my eyes, oh I see he's jealous.
"That's just Jacob, you don't have to come here Dylan." As much as I wanted to see him I didn't think it'd be a good idea. I could explain having one guy in my room if my mom showed up, but two? No way I was done.
"I know but I just want to make sure you're ok." I knew Dylan could be a bit stubborn sometimes and I wasn't going to win this argument.
"Ok Dylan I'll leave the door unlocked."
"Thanks, and one more thing. Where do you live again?" I chuckled as he asked this. So, he was coming here and didn't even know where I lived?
"I'll text you the address."
After hanging up the phone I looked over at Jacob. "I think you should leave." I told him. He raised an eyebrow.
"Why?"
"Do you want a repeat of earlier? Cause I don't." I told him crossing my arms.
"Fine." He said getting up. "You'll call me later though, if anything happens right?"
"I don't have your number." He nodded grabbing my phone and putting it in under 'angel buddy' before leaving. I decided to just watch TV until Dylan got here.
Couple minutes later I heard my doorbell ring. I got out of bed and took my time opening the door. Didn't I tell him the door was unlocked?
"Yes?" I asked soon as I opened it. Dylan stood there with a smirk on his face, looking hot as always. He purposely rang the doorbell.
"You going to let me in?" He asked walking closer.
"Should I? I do believe I told you not to come." I smirked at him. Dylan rolled his eyes. Next thing I know my body was in the air being thrown over his shoulder.
"Put me down jerk off!" I screamed hitting his back.
"Maybe next time you'll just let me in." He teased walking up the steps.
"If you don't put me down I swear I'll bite you!" I threatened.
"Oh, you animal." I could tell he wasn’t taking me seriously. Just as I was about to bite his shoulder I was flung on my
bed.
"Oof, get out of my room!" I glared up at him. He just laughed grabbing a seat at my computer desk.
"Why are you so feisty?" He leaned back in my chair getting comfortable. I rolled my eyes at him.
"When are you leaving?" I sat up on the bed sitting cross legged watching him.
"Once you tell me everything that's been going on." He said, all playfulness leaving his tone. I gulped.
"Where should I start? Things have been crazy lately." I told Dylan. The thing I liked most about Dylan was I felt like I could tell him anything, and he'd make all my problems go away.
"Let's start with who's that Jacob guy?" He suggested, raising an eyebrow. I knew he'd say that.
"Well Jacob is the one who told me I'm adopted, and well he's an angel. He’s fallen because he said he was in love with me." I told him watching his reaction. His face was neutral. I wasn't certain how Jacob would feel about me telling Dylan his identity, but I didn't care.
"Why’s he here?”
"Because I'm the first-born archangel and he says I need protection. " It felt really good to finally tell someone everything.
"But that doesn't make sense. Aren't you a werewolf? How can you be an angel too?" Dylan asked sounding very confused.
"He said my angel adapts to my surroundings and since I was surrounded by werewolves, I became one. I didn't believe him at first either, but after confirming I was adopted I decided to try something." Getting up I walked over to Dylan. "Watch this." Opening my hand, I did what Jacob taught me to do.
"Whoa what the heck Ashley!?" Dylan jumped from the chair looking very shocked.
"Apparently angels can control the elements." I told him making the flames disappear, I was getting good at this.
"Why didn't you show me this before?" He asked sitting back down. I walked back over to my bed and sat down as well.
"I couldn't do it before, Jacob said our powers only get activated when we meet another angel." I told him.
"So, meeting Jacob did this?"
"Yes, I believe so."
"Does anyone else know?" He asked.
"No, I've only told you." I said blushing.
"Hmm well I think we should keep this a secret. You don't want people coming after you. I mean a girl who can control the elements and shift? You'd be a nice prize." He told me smirking. I rolled my eyes.
"I think that's a good idea."
"Now what happened with Blake?" I cringed slightly when he mentioned his name.
"Well Jacob enrolled in my school to keep watch over me, and today he asked to sit with me at lunch. Blake was there and got upset for some reason saying he couldn't sit with me. So, I walked away from him with Jacob and he rejected me." I looked out the window thinking back to earlier once again.
"Well his lost is my gain," He gave me a flirtatious smile, causing me to blush. "Have you tried doing anything else? With the elements I mean." He asked sounding excited. I could tell he was trying to take my mind off Blake.
"Uh no, haven't had much time."
"Well you got time now." He pointed out, with a mischievous look in his eyes.
Chapter 8
"Which one should we start with?" I asked excited. We were sitting in the living room with two chairs pulled to the table. There was a rock and a glass of water in the middle.
"Which one do you want to try first?" Dylan asked me almost excited as I was. I looked over both objects deep in thought.
"Let's do water." I suggested looking up at him.
"Good I was hoping you picked that," He clapped his hands together. "Ok I want you to try and move it."
"How am I supposed to do that?" I asked him.
"I guess you should concentrate on it, try to make it do something, we'll see what happens."
I did what he suggested and focused on the glass of water.
"Are you trying?" He asked.
"Yes I am! Dumb thing won't move." I frowned.
"Ok try again." I did as he told me but this time I thought about nothing but water. Lakes, rivers, oceans. Slowly some of the water started rising out of the cup. "Oh my god! I'm doing it!" I shouted at Dylan.
"Great stay focused." Suddenly I sneezed. The water that was floating flew towards Dylan, soaking him.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry!" I told Dylan trying to hold in my laughter.
"You think this is funny?" He asked.
"N-" Before I could finish my sentence he picked the cup up, dumping the rest of the water on me. It was so cold. I shivered as I glared at him. "You jerk! Why'd you do that!"
Dylan was doubled over in laughter, while I just glared.
"You look like a wet dog." He said laughing harder at his lame joke. I crossed my arms as I calmly waited for him to stop. I could feel my shirt and hair sticking to my body.
"Are you done?"
"Ok ok I'm done." He finally calmed down.
"I'm going to go get some towels," I got up from my seat quickly running to the bathroom, grabbing two big dry towels before making my way back. "Are we going to try the rock now?" I asked him, as I tossed him a dry towel.
"Yeah let's get back to it." We both sat back down, drying ourselves as we focused back on the rock. "Ok do what you did with the water."
"You want me to hit you in the face with a rock?" I asked him smirking. He glared. I concentrated on the rock like with the water. It started vibrating on the table.
"Is that all you can make it do?" He asked.
"I guess, it seemed much harder to control than the water and fire." I told him curiously.
"Hmm let's try with the water again then." He offered. I nodded getting up to go fill the cup with more water.
After playing with the elements a while longer, Dylan decided that I needed a break. So he drove us to McDonalds.
"I'll have two Mcdoubles, a McChicken, two medium fries, a Coke and one orange Hi C please." Dylan ordered for us.
"Thank you, your total is $8.99." The voice responded. We pulled up and waited behind the car in front of us.
"Who's the McChicken for?" I asked Dylan.
"Me, why?" He asked, looking over at me.
I raised an eyebrow at him. "You're going to eat two burgers? What a cow." I giggled quietly.
"What? I'm eating for two." He rubbed his belly, smirking at me.
"Oh, so you're pregnant." I laughed. He glared at me. I knew he meant his cat side, but I couldn't help but tease him.
The car in front of us finally pulled away, we pulled up to the window to get our food. The lady at the window looked a year or so older than us, I couldn't help but notice the way she smiled at Dylan as he passed her his card. When she handed it back she made sure their fingers touched. I rolled my eyes.
"Thank you." Dylan smiled at the girl, as she handed us our food.
"She was totally hitting on you." I told him as we pulled off.
"What? No she wasn't." How could he be so blind? Did he not know how hot he was?
"She was."
"Oh well, doesn't matter anyways." I didn't ask him to elaborate cause I already knew what he meant. I didn't take notice on how long we were driving until we pulled up to a park that I've never been to.
"Why are we at a park?" I asked him confused.
"To eat duh." He told me as he parked the car and got out. I rolled my eyes. I followed him over to a bench with a table. He sat down, and I sat across from him. I waited as he passed me my food. Opening my burger, I spread the paper out so that I can pour my fries onto it.
"So, is there anything else angels can do?" He asked, while biting into his burger.
"I don't know, Jacob didn't tell me." I stuffed a few fries in my mouth.
"Do you trust him?" He asked.
"Why shouldn't I?" I wasn't one hundred percent about Jacob, but he seemed trustworthy.
"I don't know, he just kind of appeared out of nowhere. That doesn't seem a little bit strange to you?"
I never thought about it that way. He also had someone kidnap me. A person I
haven't seen again. "Well if he was going to hurt me he could've already." I told him shrugging. It's true, he didn't have to tell me I was an angel or help me with my powers.
"Yeah I guess so. Just be careful around him." My heart warmed at his caring words.
"Don't worry about me I'll be fine." I told him smiling. I'm always at ease when I'm around Dylan.
