First Born_One Of A Kind Page 10
"Healing is one of our many abilities, first you need to calm down." I did as he said closing my eyes and taking deep breathes. "Now picture the wound healing." Opening my eyes, I focused on his wound. Slowly I started feeling a tingly sensation start from my shoulders, carring down to my fingertips. I looked as wisps of white smoke started coming out my fingertip. It went to the wound and completely covered it. After a few seconds it disappeared, the skin was smooth, no cut. Blake opened his eyes and looked up at me.
"You healed me." He sounded as shocked as I felt. I looked over at Jacob to see him smiling at me with pride in his eyes. My eyes widened when I looked over at Dylan. All around him was this white glow, it was beautiful, I couldn't look away from it. That is until he frowned, and it disappeared.
I opened my mouth to ask him what that was, then decided against it. I'll ask him later when we didn't have an audience, meaning Blake. I focused back on Blake to see him sitting up now and looking much calmer. "Are you ok?" I asked.
"Yes, I just want to know what happened and why do I feel like I can run a marathon." He looked at me for answers, I looked at Jacob.
"As I mentioned before it’s one of your abilities, all angels are taught to heal." He stated proudly. He loved being an angel, I could tell.
"Angel?" Blake asked confused. Oh right he doesn't know.
"There's a lot you don't know." I sighed. He opened his mouth to speak but Jacob cut him off.
"We need to finish practicing." He told me standing up.
"With him here?" I asked, pointing to Blake. He raised an eyebrow at me.
"Yes, you'll just have to explain everything to him later." He started walking back over to the clearing we were practicing at. He was so calm you wouldn't have guessed that he just got into a fight with a werewolf. He's so badass, I couldn't wait to learn more from him. I followed him back over and stood in my original spot.
"What's going on?" Blake asked confused.
"Will you shut your trap for a second and just watch?" Dylan snapped annoyed. I heard a growl and had to hold in my giggle. Boys are such cavemen.
"Ok let's try another element." Jacob suggested as I finished stretching my arms. I don't know why I started stretching, it just felt appropriate.
"Can you teach me how to do the tornado thing you did?" I asked. I didn't know how appropriate it was to ask that, considering he just almost killed Blake with that particular skill.
"Remember when I mentioned baby steps?" I shrugged, it didn't even look that hard.
"So what are we going to do then?"
"Do earth, she struggles with that." Dylan called out, making me roll my eyes. You make a rock vibrate one time and now you suck at an element. Not like he was a good teacher anyways.
Jacob laughed. "Ok let's start with those vines over there." I looked to where he was pointing and saw a few vines around a tree stump. "I want you to control them." He said.
"I hate to agree with asshole over there but he's right. I'm not that good with earth." I said.
"Earth is really easy, since we're connected to it in a way. It's usually the element we have the most control over. Now I want you to look at the vines, but don't see them as vines. Think of them as extended arms instead." Jacob instructed me. He was like a walking angel thesaurus. Makes me wonder who his teacher was.
I did as he told me and looked at the vines. I thought of them as arms and reached out with my mind to move them. To my surprise they shot up 10 feet in the air. I screamed in surprised, losingcontrol of them. They went flying towards Dylan. They wrapped around his ankles as he tried to run, pulling him roughly to the ground. He let out a girlish scream that put mine to shame. Dylan unwrapped the vines from his ankles and stood up glaring at me.
"I think we've had enough practice today." Jacob said laughing. Even Blake cracked a smile, though he still looked confused. I guess he was just happy to see Dylan get hurt.
"I didn't mean to!" I told Dylan, for the second time today.
He glared at me walking off. "Next time I'm not coming!" He called over his shoulder. As if he would ever miss a session.
I looked back at the other two guys, to see Jacob smiling at me with pride in his eyes. "You make your parents very proud, soon enough you'll be ready for anything." His words made me feel powerful. Before I could respond he disappeared. Like literally vanished in thin air.
"I have to learn that!" I thought out loud. Someone cleared their throat behind me, I forgot Blake was here. "Well I guess I got some explaining to do." Not that I really owed him an explanation, but after everything he's seen I might as well clear up the confusion.
"Yes, you do." I sighed as we both started walking back to my house. I walked in holding the door open for him as we went into the living room.
----------------------
"So, you're an angel." Blake stated. I nodded. "Wow."
"Yeah same thing I said."
"Are you sure there's a war coming though?" He asked.
"Jacob said there is, and I don't think he has a reason to lie." Blake growled when I mentioned Jacob.
"I don't like that guy." I rolled my eyes. What guy does he like besides his brother?
"That's not my problem." Just then everything that happened between us resurfaced.
"Ashley... you don't know how sorry I am. I had no control over my wolf when he said those things." He told me pleadingly.
"It's too late Blake, the damage is done. You made your choice and I've accepted it." I felt a tear slide down my cheek, I quickly wiped it away. I will not let him effect my feelings anymore.
"It's not too late. There's a way to reverse a rejection." He told me.
"What do you mean?" I asked him curiously. I may not know much about werewolves but that sounds impossible.
"I've heard rumors..." He started, I sighed.
"It's probably not true then." Not that I was going to try it anyways.
"We can find out though." Blake pleaded once again. The hurt look he gave me was making me feel bad. I couldn't take it anymore. I shouldn't feel guilty for his mistakes.
"I think you should leave." I told him. He nodded, getting up and walking towards the door.
"I'll see you later." He said, before closing the door behind him. I sighed, the tears I was holding in started rolling down my cheeks. I know Blake and I's relationship will never be the same after this. Blinded by my tears I got up and headed up the stairs to my room. I shouldn't even be crying over him.
I pushed the door open, letting out a scream. Dylan was laying calmly on my bed holding my remote while flipping through the channels. He rolled his eyes when he heard me scream. Like he didn't almost give me a heart attack.
"Could you get any louder?" He dug a finger in his ear.
"What are you doing here? And how did you get in my room?" I asked, closing my door behind me. Thank god no one was home. Seems no one was ever home these days.
"Came through the window, you should really start locking that by the way." I glared at him. "I also wanted to make sure you were ok." He suddenly looked uncomfortable. I realized he must've heard Blake and I’s conversation.
"I'm fine," I walked over and flopped down on my bed. "Just tired. Using elements is a lot of work." I gave him a tired smile. He reached over and wiped my cheek with his thumb. I forgot I was crying before I came up here, I sighed. Dylan opened his arms for me. I hesitated a minute, before I moved over and he wrapped me up in his arms, as I laid my head on his chest.
"It's going to be ok." He told me, rubbing my arms. I felt safe and at peace in his arms, like I belonged here. After a while I felt my eyes getting heavy. Before I was fully asleep I felt Dylan kiss the top of my head. "Night angel." Was the last thing I heard before I let sleep consume me.
I snuggled more into my soft warm pillow, I never remembered it being this comfortable before. Wait a minute, is that a heartbeat? My eyes popped open and I jumped out of the bed. What the hell?
"What's wrong?" Dylan rubbed his eyes as he sa
t up.
"What's wrong? What are you doing in my house? In my bed?" I shrieked. I checked my body to make sure I was still dressed, I let out a sigh of relief.
"Oh, don't worry you wanted to though." He winked at my actions. I reached for a pillow and smacked him with it. Causing him to laugh.
"What are you doing here?" I asked again.
"I meant to leave before you woke up," He answered. I raised an eyebrow, that didn't answer my question. "I stayed last night to make sure you were ok after your talk with Blake, and ended up falling asleep.” That was actually pretty sweet of him. I blushed, god what is wrong with me?
I looked over at my clock and groaned. Today was Monday and I have an hour before school starts. Should I get dressed or try to get another thirty minutes of sleep? Or just skip.
"You could skip today if you want." Dylan offered. It's like he knew what I was thinking.
"Actually, I can't." I told him sadly. My mom would kill me. I looked up to see him just watching me. Looking at him now made me remember the glow I saw around him in the woods. I gasped. "Why were you glowing?" He frowned at me.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"In the woods after I healed Blake, there was this glow around you." He was looking at me like I was crazy, at this point I'm starting to think I imagined it.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I sighed.
"Never mind, I need to get ready for school." I walked over to my closet, grabbing blue jean shorts and a purple tank top.
"Want me to drop you off?" He asked getting out of the bed. Thank god he was fully dressed. It was probably uncomfortable sleeping in all of them clothes.
"You can drive?" After asking that I remembered the time I almost ran into his car. That seemed so long ago. Well he did almost hit me, so I guess he can drive a little bit. "Yeah I'll be ready in a bit." I told him walking into the bathroom.
"I'll be downstairs." I stiffened. I know for sure my parents are home now. What would they think when they saw Dylan come down? It was too late to stop him once I heard my bedroom door close. I'm so dead.
A couple minutes later I dreaded going down the steps. I should've told Dylan to go out the window. Not like the jump would kill him. I walked down the stairs slowly hearing voices from the kitchen. When I walked in Dylan and Jake sat at the table, my parents nowhere in sight. Phew.
"They left before Dylan came down. I'm the only one still here." My brother told me as I walked in. I decided to not tell my family I was an archangel. I didn’t want them to treat me any differently.
"You're not going to ask why he's here?" I took a seat next to Dylan at the kitchen table.
"I already told him, he knows I'm your mate." My eyes snapped to Dylan. I was hoping he came up with some excuse or something. Not the truth.
"Why didn't you tell me? I'm so happy you found your mate." Jake gushed. I guess he doesn't know about Blake, and I wasn't going to be the one to tell him.
"I didn't want to tell anyone yet." I lied. Three people already knew.
"I guess that makes sense. I've kept things from you too, so I guess we're even." That's one of the things I liked most about my brother. He didn't ask too many questions and accepted what you told him.
"How do you two know each other?" I asked, gesturing between him and Dylan. They were so chill around each other, like they met before.
"My car broke down once and Dylan gave me a lift." That's it? I thought they were long lost friends or something. I opened my mouth to respond when my phone started ringing. Getting it out of my pocket I looked at the caller I.D, Lizzy.
"Hello?"
"Where are you? I thought you were coming in early today?" She asked.
"I said I was?" How could I forget that?
"No but I was hoping you were." She said sheepishly. I grinned.
"I'm on my way now then."
"Ok meet us outside." I hung up and looked at Dylan.
"We need to go." He nodded. I grabbed my bag waving bye to Jake as we made our way to the door. The drive from my house to school was only seven minutes, but for some reason it took Dylan fifteen. I swear he was trying to make me late on purpose. When we finally arrived I noticed half the kids had gone in. Only a few lingered outside.
"Are you coming?" I asked Dylan as I was getting out. I know he didn't go to school here, but it's not like we were going in right now. Plus, I felt safer having Dylan with me.
"Yeah." He said getting out. I spotted Lizzy with Derek and Caleb next to this red car. We made our way over.
"Ashley!" Lizzy yelled throwing herself at me. I caught her just in time, or we both would've ended up on the ground.
"Hey Lizzy." I looked around her at the other guys. "Hey guys."
"Where have you been? Just forgot all about your tour guide." Derek pouted at me. I smiled.
"I didn't! I've just been busy." I shrugged.
"Too busy to text me?" He gave me puppy dog eyes. I rolled my eyes.
"I don't even have your number dork." I told him smiling, while pulling out my phone. It's hard not to smile around Derek. He walked up taking my phone out my hand to put his number in.
"There now you have no excuse." He frowned when he saw Dylan, like he was just noticing him for the first time. "Is this the guy from the arcade?" I opened my mouth to answer but Dylan beat me to it.
"Yeah why?" He asked.
"What are you doing here?" Derek asked.
"What does it look like?" Dylan and his smart mouth.
"He dropped me off." I told Derek. Seemed like Lizzy was the only one in the family with some chill. Before more words could be exchanged the bell rang. I've never been so happy for school to start in my life. I didn't expect Derek to have this reaction to Dylan. I guess he was just taking his brother side.
"I'll see you guys in first period." I said, shooing them away. Derek hesitated, but one pull from Lizzy had him moving. I turned back to Dylan. "Does drama just follow you wherever you go?"
"I thought I was being nice." He smirked. I frowned as a thought occurred to me.
"Aren't you in school still?" He smiled.
"Yes."
"Aren't you going to be late?" I asked.
"Yes." I rolled my eyes at his answers. I take it he didn't care.
"Well I got to go, thanks for dropping me off." I reached out and pulled him into a hug. The tingles came back full force. I realized I hadn't been feeling them before until now. They felt good. We pulled apart and he made his way to his car. I ran in the school building hoping to make it before the second bell.
Chapter 10
"I hate Ms. Cram." I ranted to Lizzy as we left math class. The evil woman gave us five pages of math homework, and it was due tomorrow. "I'm going to be up all night doing this!" I sighed in frustration.
Lizzy giggled. "We can do it together if you want. I'm pretty good at math." She said smugly. What a show off.
"You'd do that for little old me?" I batted my eyelashes at her. She rolled her eyes as we walked in the cafeteria. It always amazes me how wild the students were during lunch time. Some were dancing on tables, while a group of boys were shooting dice. Isn't that illegal? Lizzy had convinced me to start eating lunch in the cafeteria, I was starting to regret my decision.
"Only because I don't want a dumb failing friend." She said. I grinned at her as we made our way to the back of the food line.
"You're so considerate." I reached for the last slice of pizza. So, you can imagine my surprise when another hand snatched it before I could. "Hey!" I turned around to glare at the culprit.
Jacob stood there with a smirk on his face. As much as I liked him being my trainer I did not like him being my classmate. Its like being around teenagers turned him into one. His personality was so different at school compared to training.
"What?" He asked, placing my slice of pizza on his tray.
"That's my piece!"
He flipped the pizza over examining it. “I don’t see your name on it.”
&
nbsp; "You're about to see my name up your ass after I insert my foot there." Maybe I was being a bit immature as well, but hey he started it.
He chuckled. "When did you become so hostile?"
"Right after a jerk stole my food." I reached on his tray grabbing my pizza.
"Taking food from the hungry, you have no shame." He frowned at me.
I ignored him as I pushed by to pay for my lunch. Lizzy giggled at us.
